What Makes DES Different

Plenty of test prep focuses on worksheets and volume. Our approach is more strategic: we build skills, strategy, and the executive
functioning systems students need to perform consistently under pressure.

  • Clarity first: we identify what’s actually holding scores back (content, pacing, attention, strategy, anxiety).
  • Strategy over busywork: we teach question-type approaches, elimination, and time decisions.
  • EF coaching built in: planning, organization, self-monitoring, and regulation are part of the plan.
  • Efficient by design: purposeful practice without burnout. We don’t believe in lazy—and we don’t believe in busywork.

Executive Function Coaching Built Into Test Prep

Most students don’t underperform because they “don’t know enough.” They underperform because they can’t execute consistently under
test conditions. Executive function coaching changes that.

Skills we build during test prep

  • Planning: a study schedule that’s realistic and sustainable
  • Time management: section pacing and time-per-question targets
  • Organization: materials, assignments, and practice tests kept clean and trackable
  • Self-monitoring: recognizing patterns (careless errors, misreads, rushing)
  • Emotional regulation: staying calm and effective even when stuck

FAQs

When should we start ISEE or SSAT prep?

Most families benefit from starting 8–12 weeks before the test date. If your timeline is tighter, we can build a condensed plan that prioritizes the highest-impact sections and strategies.

Do you offer ISEE and SSAT tutoring for all levels?

Yes—Lower, Middle, and Upper Levels. We tailor instruction to the student’s grade, baseline, and target schools.

Is executive function coaching separate from tutoring?

No. It’s integrated. We coach organization, time management, pacing, and self-monitoring as part of the test prep plan because those skills directly affect scores.

Can you help students with ADHD or test anxiety?

Yes. We build structure, pacing routines, and regulation strategies so students can perform under pressure without burning out.

Do you provide homework/practice between sessions?

Yes, but it’s intentional. Practice is designed to reinforce what we taught—not drown the student in busywork.

Are sessions in-person or virtual?

Both. We serve families in Greenwich and surrounding towns in-person, and we also offer virtual sessions with the same structure and accountability.

Do you help with the writing sample/essay?

Yes. While the essay/writing sample is unscored, it’s still sent to schools. We help students produce clear, organized writing that reflects their best thinking.

What happens in the free consultation?

We’ll discuss the student’s grade, test level, timeline, learning profile, and goals. You’ll leave the call knowing what the plan should look like and what support makes sense.
