You work one-on-one, in the student’s actual environment, building the study skills, organization, and time management systems that fit their real life. No scripts, no center schedule. Your judgment as an educator is the product. Founded in 2009 by a former special education teacher and administrator, DES has grown to a team of 50+ across the Northeast and South Florida while staying relationship-driven and in-home first. Most of our students have verbal or non-verbal learning disabilities and/or ADHD, classroom expertise translates directly.

Competitive pay by market: $90–$110/hour in Manhattan, $80–$100/hour in CT and Westchester, $50–$70/hour in South Florida, higher for specialized assignments

Coach middle and high school students (plus elementary and college-aged) in their homes on study skills, organization, and time management, with reading and writing remediation as a core part of the work.

You’ll need

Special education teaching certification required
Master’s degree in special education or a related field (or in progress)
Background in reading and writing remediation
Willingness to travel to students’ homes

A plus, not required

OG, Wilson, or PAF certification or experience
Math/science background: proficiency through 5th-grade math is sufficient

Executive Function Coach (In-Person): Manhattan

Upper East Side · Upper West Side · Tribeca · Riverdale · Brooklyn

Coach students in their homes across Manhattan and brownstone Brooklyn on study skills, organization, time management, and follow-through, with reading and writing remediation as a core part of the work. Ideal for credentialed teachers who want meaningful one-on-one work with motivated NYC families.

You’ll need

Special education teaching certification required
Master’s degree in special education or a related field (or in progress)
Background in reading and writing remediation
Comfort traveling to students’ homes via transit across Manhattan (Brooklyn and Riverdale a plus)

OG, Wilson, or PAF certification or experience
Experience with NYC independent school curricula and admissions timelines

Executive Function Coach & Academic Tutor

East Boca · West Boca & surrounding

Teaching background: current and former classroom teachers encouraged

How it works

Independent contracting, clearly stated.

Tutors and coaches join DES as independent contractors, not employees. That means full control over your scheduling and instructional methods, responsibility for your own taxes, and no restrictions on outside work. You’re free to keep your own clients or other employment alongside your DES caseload. We match you with families in the towns you choose, and compensation reflects our commitment to hiring top-tier professionals who build strong connections with students.

Compensation

Pay is set by market, credentials, and the assignment.

Compensation is based on location, professional credentials, experience, subject-area expertise, and the complexity of the assignment. Rates are per hour of instruction.

Manhattan$90–$110 per hour

Connecticut & Westchester$80–$100 per hour

South Florida / Boca Raton$50–$70 per hour

Specialized assignments requiring advanced certifications or expertise, such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, advanced mathematics or science, or other specialized instruction, may be compensated at a higher rate.
